the phrase i think is 'experience desired but not essential'.
for bar work, PRs, restaurant, etc - the most important thing is personality and the ability to communicate. as a PM, dealing with people and managing situations should be something you're used, the thing that you project manage is irrelevant, its the skills that are important.
