Hi all,

I have eventually convinced myself i NEED an iPod - i've got so many CD's & MP3's to put on one.

Only prob is do I go for 20gb or 60gb. I want to go for 60gb but have been told it does not fit into iPod accessories like docking stations bec it is 1mm bigger that the 20gb version?

Also what has happened to the 40gb version?

Has anyone got either or any views?

Cheers...

I don't think apple launches an Ipod that doesn't fit accesories. Why not checking their site to sort it out?

I have a mini one and my boyfriend has the 5Gb one, it's a collectionable item ;)

20gb should do lad, but it depends on what bitrate your music is saved at, as the higer the kbps the more room the songs take up and the less you can fit, i have very high bit rate songs, and a 20Gb would be enogh, but its up to how many songs you have and their size

I've got 73 gigs of music, most of it ripped at 160kbps, so even the 60gb iPod wouldn't fit everything

I think the larger they are, the more likely you are to just put on a lot of music you won't listen to when you're travelling anyway.

I prefer the iPod mini... I've got a 5gb one. Fits just enough to give you a good choice of music when you're travelling, but small enough that you can stick it in your pants pocket when walking around.

Ya, they're flashed-memory based with color screens. Probably better because they should theoretically be faster loading than hard drives and totally shock-proof. They'll also come in 5, 6 and 8 gb.

ive a 40g. wouldn't recommend it for music on the move as it is really heavy.

i use an ipod shuffle most days now. I just load it up every few days with different soundz

I can say they are shock proof cos a car run over my little pink one, there's no signal in it of the accident but the screen is totally funked and it's impossible to know if there's battery, if you are hearing a shuffle session or what

Hi Sil... I was saying that the new iPod minis (to be released this month), which will run on flash memory, should be a little more resilient than the old ones with hard drives (like mine).

The old ones are still relatively sturdy. Nevertheless, running over them with a car would probably still not be a good idea  ;)

I DJ for a living with less than a 30Gb database on my laptop............and that covers all the big tunes from the 50's onwards...........all stored at 192k.

............and if I were honest there's about a quarter of them I could lose that never get played.

Just checked 3,808 tunes, 26.3Gb database. :D ...............anymore and the laptop would get too heavy.

Morbyd, the amazing thing is that minipod itself is in perfect state after the car incident, it works perfectly, but the screen is a black square at the moment.
So I got a new one before holidays with longer battery and Pep uses the old one as a pendrive

Wow... I can't believe that it takes up so little space :?

My collection is about 800 albums/compilations or, more accurately, 1000 discs, plus another approx. 30-50 albums taken from a friend's iPod and maybe 100 downloaded songs. It is about 30% ripped at 128 and 68% ripped at 160 with the remainder mostly above 160.

It takes up 73 gigs, though I don't know how many individual songs that is.

Ive got a mini iPOD and I want to take it on holiday with me , but how do recharge the battery without a PC??

Anyone know??

Scoobie, the new ones doesn't come with the plug adaptor. My first minipod came with firewier and usb plug, earphones, plug adaptor, arm band and few other accessories. The new one just come with firewire and ear phones (see the different sizes of boxes)

NilSatis, this is what you need
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APP...1JKey/3.0.0.15.1.0.6.9.9.17.0.1.1.1.1.2.1.0.1

You also have the usb one
