The Specials last year, Madness this year... you gotta love what Ibiza Rocks are doing!

The Whip first played at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel in july 2008 as part of the Xbox Weekender and two months later they debuted at Ibiza Rocks in the San Rafael hippodrome. Three years later and with a second album out next week they were back. As they did back in june at Space, they played songs from their new album Wired together ("Secret weapon", "Shake", "Movement" and "Keep or delete") plus stuff from their debut X marks destination including their signature tune "Trash" with which they finished... shame they didn't play a bit more as I missed many songs. I had the pleasure to meet the singer after the gig and he's a nice chap!

From the moment Madness member and long time Ibiza resident Chas Smash grabbed the mic to shout the classic intro to "One step beyond" till Monty Python's "Always look on the bright side of life" that was used as the outro at the end, we enjoyed a superb concert featuring not only all the expected favourites but also some songs from their 2009 release The liberty of norton folgate and even the brand spanking new "Can't keep a good thing down". Easily the most festive atmosphere of the season, with old and young dancing non-stop and singing along in unison classics such as "Embarrassment", "The prince", "My girl", "Shut up", "House of fun", "Baggy trousers", "Our house", "It must be love" or "Night boat to Cairo"... memorable!

One of the busiest nights of the season (I even met people from mainland Spain that came specifically for this one) with the VIP balcony jam-packed with who's who on the island. Mention also to the high turn up of island residents who didn't want to miss the ska legends. Afterwards I ended up at Pikes' VIP after party once again... top night, from beginning to end!

Favourite moment: Madness covering reggae classic "I chase the devil" (which The Prodigy sampled for "Out of space")

I'm really peed off that I couldn't make it to this one, knew it would be a cracker !

Glad you enjoyed it though.

stood up on the Balcony to watch this...

The whip where pretty decent Indie popsters, though a keyboard player would have helped the lead singer.. he looked like he was spinning plates at times..!

Doorly... was rubbish.. no idea how to keep the crowd going..
he'd mix in a decent song.. the crowd would start to dance and then he'd ruin it by messing about with it on the decks with stupid effects, im a fan of Drum and Bass if its done well but this guy sent me to sleep.. chant of the day... doorly doorly made me feel poorly!

Then had to wait an age for Madness to come on stage...

But it was worth the wait for a brilliant, memorable performance from them.. the crowd went Mental dancing which was great to watch from the balcony! A nice long set that started and finished with some belting classics.. and a few new songs inbetween that i hadnt heard before.. and the cover of i chase the devil was great to hear too! :)
