IBIZA ROCKS Closing with The Specials + The King Blues (September 14th)

One week after the mind-blowing double dose of drum'n'bass, the Ibiza Rocks closing party arrived and it was a bittersweet feeling... excited and saddened at the same time: excited to have the chance to see The Specials supported by The King Blues (as requested by the ska legends) but a bit sad because it was the last one. Surprising how busy it was considering it's mid-september!

Last year at the closing party the lovely La Skimal (Ibiza Rocks' official photographer) asked everybody that was there every week to write down on a board the name of their fave band of the season and then their pic was taken with it... most people voted for Groove Armada and Vampire Weekend but my vote was for The King Blues so you can imagine my excitement when it was announced they would be back to open for The Specials (extra special ! ! ). Apart from songs from their two albums, the political acoustic punk band also played a couple of kick-ass new songs: "Headbutt" and "Set the world on fire" (on a curious note, the band included a short part of “Talkin' bout a revolution” by Tracy Chapman at the beginning of "I got love"). Shame they only played 30 minutes... too short for such a good band!

Looking at the faces in the front row you could notice what a nice mixture of ages The Specials attracted. The legendary band played most of their 1st album and half of the 2nd (some people were expecting to hear "Ghost town" but it didn't happen)... special mention for "A message to Rudy" that was received, even by the younger ones, as the true classic it is and during which people went nuts. An amazing way to finish an amazing season!

And that's it. Their most successful season, and with a stronger line-up, is over. Thanks to Ibiza Rocks for making it another summer to remember... looking forward to next year already!

Favourite moment of the night: you've done too much, much too young, now you're married with a kid, when you could be having fun with me... classic!

The whole night was a little bit emotional for all the crew involved in Ibiza Rocks, also being the end of our 5th year as an event me and fellow resident DJ decided to dedicate half an hour before The Specials took the stage to play only songs by the bands that have played for us in the last 5 years! It takes something like this to remind you of some of the serious talent we've had on our stage through the years - The Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, The Prodigy, The Streets, Florence and the Machine, Babyshambles, Bloc Party to name but a few!
