Ibiza Rocks is only as good as the bands that are around at the moment or the classic bands (e.g. New Order) they can get to play. I'd argue guitar music is pretty boring these days, but when there are decent bands around IR will book some of them. The great LCD Soundsystem played there a few years back. If there is a band you like, or even one that you don't hate, playing there, it is a good venue. I saw Biffy Clyro there a few years ago; not really my thing (despite being local boys!), but it was still a good night. Personally, I think IR works better when the band does have some slight dance element; I generally don't find heavy rock 'Balearic' at all.
Ok to make long things a bit more to the point:
I think the artist that I could see at IR are :
James Blake... Can anyone tell me why he has not been booked? - the guy is basically propelling part of the dance scene into something progressive. He has given dubby house vocals and bit more linear purpose. How is he not dance enough?
Rhianna , beyonce, alicia keys and ciara .. at leat one of them should play at IR. Rock and roll come from soulful music. So I dunno why you can't have any of these awesomely talented girls sing .... are you kidding me? - they will not sell out? Maybe ciara might need a bit of help.
other bands that seriously should play at IR
iceage - enough said. poppy punk. It is not full on punk destroy the whole crowd and sign to the demonds. Yes they have pagan symbols and have been linked fascist symbols too... but they are not! it is pop, it is punk... they are more like a modern day joy division.
cults- good stage presence and they make short sets and sweet music. Great opener.
Sky Ferreira - yea she has one single but it was the indie single of the freaking year 2012 best song indie pop tune.
hello?
As for black - hip hop acts. The most poppy acts right now would probably be:
Danny brown and A$ap rocky.
This is just a short list and a very picky list.
How can you justify fitting london grammar, foals, aluna george and franz ferdinand and call it great line up?
first there is hardly no north american presence and these acts that I have just mentioned have pretty global appeal.
I could throw on a couple of more.. but as far as being hot and probably "cool" at the moment they certainly would attract enough attention along the already booked talent.
I hope you see my point. No offence to the brit line up.. but I remember last year... kasabian???
maybe I am too north american... but honestly I do not mind the dance acts in ibiza.
