Still buzzing after last wednesday's epic Chic gig, we headed back to San Antonio last night for another special treat: Franz Ferdinand making their Ibiza debut!
Opening this week we had The Bohicas, who were added to the line-up ten days ago.
They're a new band just signed to the same record label than Franz Ferdinand, Domino Records, and this was actually their first ever show outside the UK (on tuesday in Mallorca the masters of dance-rock had a different band opening for them). We didn't really know what to expect as we never heard anything from them prior to the show but our first contact with the band couldn't have been more positive.
We enjoyed their straight-to-the-point kick-ass rock and we look forward to hear more from them!
And then it was time to welcome back Zane Lowe.
The renowned radio personality and musical director of Ibiza Rocks knows how to get the crowd going and make them dance to his excellent selection of songs and that's exactly what he did.
Zane, who later dj'd at the Ibiza Rocks Bar too, will be back next week for the closing of We Are Rockstars with his friend Mark Ronson.
Franz Ferdinand (and other bands like Bloc Party, who we saw last year) were a huge influence on Ibiza Rocks, that was born with the aim of creating a night for dance kids who wanted to rock and rock kids who wanted to dance, so it was just a matter of time till they graced that stage.
Alex Kapranos and co are huge in Spain so it wasn't a surprise that they attracted more locals than anybody else this summer. The scottish band, that is touring in support of their new album Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action that came out two weeks ago, played all their biggest tunes like "Do You Want To", "Can't Stop Feeling" (which included a snippet of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love"), "This Fire" (during which the guitarist Nick McCarthy left the stage to finish the song from the top of the exit tunnel at the right of the stage), the classic "Take Me Out" or "Jacqueline" and also various from the recently released fourth album, five to be exact: "Right Action", "Evil Eye", "Stand On The Horizon", "Bullet " and "Love Illumination". "Outsiders" was the last banger of the night, which ended with all four members playing on the drum kit for a few minutes... fantastic finale!
Franz Ferdinand's danceable beats kept our feet moving during the eighty minutes they were on stage. Their show rocked and we loved every minute of it... another firm candidate for best gig of the season!
Sadly there's only one date left before it's over for another year... are you going to miss it?!
Stay tuned for more pictures, videos, etc from yesterday...
