The final Ibiza Rocks of the season is always emotional and this time wasn't any different...
Alex Warren a.k.a. Kiwi was the first guest.
The up and coming dj and producer debuted in Ibiza last sunday at We Love (Space) and repeated yesterday at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel shortly after the doors opened.
Even if he dj'd way too early, his laid-back vibes went down a treat amongst the first arrivals!
The australian trio Jagwar Ma (described later by Yannis Philippakis from Foals as the best new band in the world) was next.
Happy Mondays instantly springs to mind on first listen, although they've also been compared to The Stone Roses and even Primal Scream. Comparisons aside, their debut album Howlin' (2013) is really good and we loved hearing live songs like "Man I Need", the brilliant "Let Her Go", "Come Save Me" or the final "The Throw".
Their music might not win you over right away but, once you give it a few more listens, you'll end up hypnotized by those addictive beats!
And then it was time to close the season in style with Foals.
With three albums in the market, the Oxford band is at the peak of their popularity. Among the songs played, mostly taken from Holy Fire (2013) but also with some from Antidotes (2008) and Total Life Forever (2010), we particularly enjoyed "My Number", "Late Night" (which we heard often this summer because of Solomun's remix) and "Inhaler" to name a few of the many that were part of their 70-minute show. The wow moment of the night came during "Electric Bloom" when Yannis magically appeared in the VIP and walked along the edge of the balcony under the watchful eye of the crowd. For the last song of the night, "Two Steps, Twice", they invited two members of Jagwar Ma to help them bang the drums for what can only be described as an epic finale!
Amazing band and concert. By the way, later Edwin Congreave (keyboards) dj'd at Pikes' invite only after party.
The 8th season of the live music leader is over. A great season where we saw names like Bastille or Franz Ferdinand making their Ibiza debut, favourites like The Vaccines or Biffy Clyro blowing our minds again, new bands like Palma Violets or London Grammar with which we fell in love and the legends Liam Gallagher and Nile Rodgers showing they still have a lot to say. Bring on next year!
More pictures, videos, etc in a few hours...
