The one and only Fatboy Slim, who was the very special suprise guest dj at Freddie Rocks Ibiza on tuesday, was back to present his new Smile High Club show...
Martin Doorly knows how to warm up the Ibiza Rocks Hotel crowd for the night ahead better than anybody else as he's been its resident since it first opened in 2008. Since then he's being involved in other Ibiza Rocks adventures like Reclaim The Dancefloor at Eden or Ibiza Rocks House at Pacha, and this year he's the resident of the new night Shelter at Sankeys.
The popularity of the British dj (relocated to Los Angeles three years ago) has grown incredibly in recent years, having had the chance to work with many of his heroes, so he doesn't have as many dates on the island as in the past as he's busy travelling all over the globe. It was actually this year's only date at Ibiza Rocks for the busy boy who, aside from dj, is also producer, club promoter, record label owner and radio presenter.
The versatile genre-hopping dj did a terrific job and his 70-minute set passed in a blink of an eye. Afterwards he also dj'd at Ibiza Rocks Bar for the official afterparty.
Two weeks ago Fatboy Slim stepped in as last-minute replacement after Spandau Ballet's unexpected cancellation, not a surprise since he's a long-time friend and supporter of the brand.
You can't go wrong booking Norman Cook because you know he'll fill the venue, which is exactly what happened with long queues outside to get in (not as ridiculously busy as Rudimental but up there among the busiest of the season)... and if he brings along an amazing lazer show, giant ballons, masks for him and the people at the front of the stage (not to mention his inseparable klaxon!) you have a great night guaranteed. His set included from remixed versions of classics such as "Seven Nation Army" by The White Stripes, "Psycho Killer" by Talking Heads or "Satisfaction" by the Stones to recent stuff like "Booyah" by Showtek, "Rocket" by Tom Staar or "Oldschool Sound" by Yves V, thrown in the mix along the indispensable "Star 69", "Eat Sleep Rave Repeat", "The Rockafeller Skank", "Gangster Trippin", "Right Here, Right Now" or "Praise You".
His new show is yet another phenomenal live production so, if you have the chance, go and enjoy it!
Next week will see the return of Mark Ronson to the Ibiza Rocks Hotel, this time on his own without his amigo Zane Lowe... you can get here your tickets.
