Big expectation this week because UK's current number one artist in the singles chart was gracing the Ibiza Rocks stage, which meant queues outside the hotel long before the doors opened at 7pm.
With people flooding in for Ellie Goulding, Clean Bandit came on stage with their original proposal that mixes electronic and classical music.
Signed to Black Butter Records (who will be hosting We Are Rockstars next week) but with no album out yet, the London band gave us a taste of their talent with songs like "Dust Clears", "A+E" or their hit "Mozart's House" (with which they finished) and also covered SBTRKT's "Wildfire".
We weren't sure what to expect from them but the truth is their fusion of styles actually works!
Isn't it a curious coincidence that the same week the song "Burn" topped the UK singles chart Ellie Goulding debuted in Ibiza?!
The show was all about showcasing Ellie's extraordinary voice and she sure did that, but also interacted well with the audience, banged the drums on her percussion kit and even played the guitar. We heard songs from Lights (2010) and, mostly, from Halcyon (2012) including the hit singles "Starry Eyed", "Figure 8", "Explosions", "Your Song" (being into of everything Elton John did in the 70's, it was great to hear that one!), "Anything Could Happen" and "Lights" before she left the stage for a couple of minutes, saving for the encore probably the two most popular songs: "Burn", which she announced will continue at the top for (at least) a second week, and her collaboration with Calvin Harris "I Need Your Love" as the perfect end of the evening.
After what we saw last night we can confirm that, apart from being one of the world's most successful female solo stars, she's an exceptional performer live!
One of the biggies of the season... although you just have to check the remaining line-ups to realize it's going to be one biggie after another from now on!
More pictures, setlists, videos, etc to be added later...
