The beautiful pool area of the Santos hotel, with stunning views of Dalt Vila and Formentera, is just perfect for live performances. There's something special about enjoying concerts in the open air and if it's in front of the sea with the added sound of the waves crashing on the beach even more... such an idyllic scenario!

The new bi-weekly series of acoustic concerts Dorado Live Shows features an attractive line-up with national and international groups, personal highlight being Kitty, Daisy & Lewis supported by local heroes Uncle Sal... an evening not to miss. To top it all, entry is only 10€ including a drink so it simply can't get any better.

For the opening they brought L.A. from Mallorca, one of the most international Spanish bands and with a few albums under their belt. Like when he played at El Reencuentro in San Antonio two years ago, Luis Alberto came alone without his band and delivered an 85-minute show (silly me was expecting something like half an hour) with his accessible brand of Pop Rock and a great voice that reminds me of Matthew Sweet and Eddie Vedder. Songs like the new single "In America", "Under Radar" (my favourite), "Oh Why?", "In The Meadow", "Love Comes Around", "Outsider", "Hands", "Older" or "So Dramatic" sounded fantastic acoustically. Nice concert and cool guy (anybody that mentions Soup by Blind Melon as one of his top ten albums is cool in my book)!

The party continued till late next door at Concept Hotel Group's new venture Santos Dorado, inside its Backstage club to be exact, with residents Colin Peters and Wild Wolf plus guests. Hopefully these concerts will be a success, the first one certainly was, and next year we can enjoy them on a weekly basis.

As it happens with all the best hotels on the island, you can book the three Concept Hotel Group hotels through Spotlight. Staying at any of them (Santos, Tropicana or Santos Dorado) guarantees you free entry to these events, which is a bonus!

BURLESQUE QUEEN VINILA VON BISMARK, WILL TAKEOVER THE OUTSTANDING SANTOS IBIZA TERRACE THIS THURSDAY

After the first concert's great success with L.A., Dorado Live Shows strike again with a rock & roll and burlesque night, in front of the beach and coinciding with San Juan's magic night.

The multifaced singer Vinila Von Bismark will visit Ibiza on Thursday June 23rd to offer an acoustic show within the series Dorado Live Shows at Santos Ibiza. Considered the Spanish Burlesque Queen, her music style is mainly rock & roll mixed with dark and exotic atmospheres becoming a personal style fulfilled of sensuality and magic. Recently, she has launched her own version of Lola Flores hit “Pena, penita, pena”, with which hopefully she will wow the crowd at the stunning Santos Ibiza terrace.

After the show and before to get the party started at Dorado's Backstage, guests can enjoy the traditional San Juan fireworks over Figueretas beach from the fabulous location of Santos Ibiza with Dalt Vila fortress as the finest background.

After the great opening of Dorado Live Shows two weeks ago with L.A., it was the turn of the Spanish burlesque queen.

Aside from being a regular at the Rock Night events, Vinila von Bismark (real name Irene Lopez Mañas) also appeared in the past at parties like Cafe Ole or the brilliantly named Malaputa Rock (both at Space). Due to a car accident in mainland and missing her flight, she arrived to Ibiza just in time for her gig at Santos. During one hour she presented her first solo album A Place With No Name (2014) with songs like "Snake", "Teddy B", "Ali Baba" or "Feel Like A Man" and also played some covers like "Alameda's Blues" by Smash (pioneers in the fusion of flamenco and rock), "Habibi Twist" by The Latins or "Do The Clam" popularized by Elvis Presley but the highlight of the evening was her rendition of Lola Flores' hit "Pena, Penita, Pena"... one of those songs I never thought I would be singing along to. She finished with a rocking version of "I've Got My Eyes On You", after which she jumped into the pool... top night!

The band's unique sound is a mix of synthpop and electro rock with a touch of post-punk. Their last album “Black Anything” (2016) has been recorded around different countries including evocative references to the place it was registered. Undoubtedly it will be an interesting challenge for the band to move their dark and light party beats to the acoustic format.

July already and so many things going on so I always end up missing events I would like to attend, for example Imagination at Heart on friday or Rudimental at Cova Santa yesterday. Having seen Rudimental's live show twice, last night I opted for Is Tropical...

DLS3+(2)+-+copia.JPG

I was curious to hear how Is Tropical's unique sound, noisy synth pop with a post-punk edge, would translate in acoustic form and surprisingly the London four-piece's first full acoustic set ever sounded pretty well. They played songs mostly from their third and last album Black Anything, like "Cruise Control" or "Say", but also old favourites like "Cry" or "Dancing Anymore". Even if the weather was really poor and we even got a few raindrops, it was a great wee gig!

Afterwards we had a chat with Kirstie Fleck, the lead singer, who was super nice.

Dorian, one of the biggest Spanish bands, visited Ibiza for the first time as part of their tenth anniversary tour promoting the recent live album Diez años y un día.

DLS4+(4)+-+copia.JPG

The expectation to see the Barcelona band, which played as a trio, was huge and the quickly-filling venue was a sea of excited faces. It was a privilege being able to hear in the intimate poolside setting of Santos some of Dorian's most famous songs ("Los amigos que perdí", "Verte amanecer", "El temblor", "La mañana herida", "Paraísos artificiales", "La tormenta de arena", "Cualquier otra parte", etc), however the undisputed highlight of the night was the cover of Nacha Pop's classic "Lucha de gigantes"... emotional!

By the way, two of them were spotted the night before at Ibiza Rocks...
