Something different this week with the singers and songwriters Jake Bugg and Ben Howard, two of the best new talents to emerge from the UK. Judging by the result, people loved it which proves once again that most people embrace variety... something those who don't clean their ears often will always have problems with!
Jake Bugg was first on stage. With only 18 years he has already released some singles and his first album should be out in october. With his distinctive voice and great songs like "Trouble town", "Country song" or "Lightning bolt" I'm pretty sure he gained many new fans last night... me one of them!
BBC Radio 1 DJ and Bestival founder Rob Da Bank has been part of the Ibiza Rocks line-ups many times over the years, the last time in 2010 for the 5th birthday party with The Prodigy (my fave gig at the hotel ever). The barefoot DJ always brings awesome music in his bag and this time wasn't different!
A very special night for the 25 year old Ben Howard, who has a long history with Ibiza (his grandad was the owner of one of the first bars in La Marina, Clive's, nowadays The Rock Bar) and who last night headlined Ibiza Rocks after some low-key gigs on the island in the past. He's much-loved among the local musicians, who were there last night to support him along with family and friends!
Surrounded by his multi-talented three fellow musicians, he played during almost an hour and half most of the material from his brilliant debut album Every kingdom plus the b-side "Depth over distance" and the new song "Burgh island". I love his emotionally charged songs with that sense of beautiful simplicity and his unusual way of playing the acoustic guitar (he also used the electric for a couple of songs). A truly talented guy that deserves all the success he's getting at the moment and more!
