Tracked Down

The Town Hall of San Jose has eventually managed to locate the owner
of the old dolphinarium, which has lain in ruins for the last 20 years.

The task of finding the proprietor was made more difficult due to the fact
he was not enrolled at the Land Registry, and the land had been bought
through a series of auctions.
However, after exhaustive investigation the owner has eventually been discovered
in Madrid, and negotiations will now begin to buy the land.

Mayor Josep Mari Ribas Agustinet admitted it was of little value,
as nothing could ever be built there as the land had now become protected
within the ses Salinas natural park.

He revealed that the idea was to sit down to some civil discussions with the owner
to try and negotiate the sale of the land.
However, he warned if an agreement could not be reached the Town Hall would
contemplate expropriating the land, although this would remain a last resort.

The dolphinarium was build during the 70s but has remained derelict
for the better part of the last 25 years.

The disused park is made up of a number of swimming pools, terraces and other parts,
all of which the Town Hall would like to demolish to return the area back
to its original state.

I was on the ferry between Ibiza and Formentera in late September 2010, and saw 2 dolphins swimming alongside the boat!
Thats the 1st time in 15 years of visiting Ibiza I've seen any; a beautiful moment.

Rescue

A young dolphin was spotted near the shore at Talamanca last week,
in front of the Simbad Hotel.

One of the local Residents' Association members, Celestino Sánchez, explained
that it was his grandson who first alerted him and the Local Police of the presence
of the 1.5 metre animal, which appeared to be healthy and unharmed,
and they used their small pleasure craft to go to its aid.

Once it had calmed down they managed to tie a rope to its tail and tow it to deeper water,
but it became disorientated and started moving back towards the shore, and it took
the rescuers almost two hours to persuade it to go out to sea,
where it disappeared in the direction of Formentera.
