2014 The Quietest Season in the west end

^^ it has done in San Antonio until very recently, but interesting to hear you confirm that the market which used to come to the West End is just choosing Malia, Shagaluf, Sunny Beach etc.

Maybe they are tired of the Mayoress telling them to put their shirts on when they're on the streets :D

So the concept of the westend doesn't match why people come to the island really.

I have a group of friends who for many years (and possibly even now) had a view of Ibiza where the West End did very much match their reason for coming to the island. I've mentioned this in some of my reviews - some of my friends gave up tickets at Es Paradis for a return to Flares. Yes, let that sink in. Flares. Many many people with the same mindset have visited San An over the years.

As said, I think there are fewer of this demographic on the island at the moment. There are more of a different demographic for whom the West End is not the attraction.

Clubs became boring, Nightlife itself became pretty boring.

About 25 years ago, Fiesta del Aqua at EsParadis was a one off event at the end of the season, all the sudden it became weekly. Boring
Espuma at Amnesia maybe once a month, late 90s all the sudden twice a week. Boring

Today, a "Big Night" with "Big Names" in every "Big Club" each night and the next week same on repeat.
Buying tickets in advance and being stuck to the boundaries of planned holiday from the moment I leave home.
And I hate being stuck in a cluster of PRs trying to drag me into a certain place.

In my view, the clubscene has completely lost the excitement and curiosity on whats coming next.

For sure the commercialisation of dance music has made the extraordinary ordinary and sanitised, but I still wouldn't call any of it boring! And there's still the underground side to Ibiza. Its the way of the world that as venues/genres/movements become successful they become more safe and structured. In some ways theyre a victim of their own success, in others they are simply a success

They're a victim of their own success for some, but on the flip side, would they still be around today if they had continued untouched since the early 90s?

avicii opening was rammed, we love is very very busy tonight, as is pacha for s+1 and i head amnesia is also busy. tonight a LOT of people are out in the clubs, I can confirm this with my own eyes.

yeah I heard all of those did well on Sunday, especially Avicii & We Love.

San An is still very quiet, especially in the West End, which it shouldn't be for this time of the season.
I have heard PDB has picked up in the last week or so, Sankeys was supposed to be really busy the other night. I guess most people are on that side of the island this summer.

that thread must be a windup anyway or just utter nonsense.
"quietest season", "westend a ghosttown" ... ridiculous, even in may and june there were myriads of people.
only heard that play2 closed 3 days one week in the very early season ..
just because some place called "v-club" closed ?? who cares ? i bet 99,99% of all tourists and 99,8% of spotlighters have never heard of this place before !

it's no wind up, I've been here since May 1st and it's been so quiet in San An, especially the West End. Play2 opened and closed it's doors several times at the start of the season, and they continue to struggle.
V Club was known as the the underground club of the West End, very popular with workers and tourists from when it opened in 2010. It was also the second largest club after Play2, maybe you didn't know of it, but many people did and everyone who came through the doors returned most nights that they were here.

Icey, it was V-Vodka before, the one immediately in front of you on the corner at the Port end of the main street after you turn right past the cashpoints at the end of the fountains before turning left again up towards (old) Pussycat / Mambo etc.

They had a music policy change a couple of years ago - seem to remember it used to be pretty hard in there before but then it changed. Just sounds like they opened too early this year, and ran out of money because not enough people came at the start of the season and can;t survive just on workers. June and second half of September (even before) have always been quiet in San Antoni. I've been there round opening and closing times, and also in June, and found the place like a ghost town with only workers in the bars etc. But it is abnormal for this to go on well into July.

Just sounds like there are more bars than demand each passing year (bars bomb every year - just look at Plastik etc in all its previous incarnations), so some need to close to allow the others to pick up the trade that's there and stay busy. Ibiza Rocks bar was busy enough last Tuesday. The well-known brand bars and those in the best location will likely get enough business when numbers are down, but those on the outlying areas will suffer. Tastes and trends change, and not everywhere can be booming every year. San An will evolve and be busy again soon enough, I'm sure !

When V opened in 2010 their music policy was tech house, but from 2012 it was more deep house, but with some tech house too.

V Club was the last bar to open, Friday 30th May, and even though there were plenty of good nights in there, there were a lot of quiet nights too. We all said that it would pick up in late June, then in late June we said it would pick up in July, but it never did, and even last night 21st July, it was still so quiet.

I did notice however the restaurants seemed to do OK, so maybe more people are just having a few quiet drinks with their meal instead of going out drinking all night.

whats the name again of that strange crappy tacky location when you walk on the promenade from itaca to oceanbeach-direction ..
with big window where you can see very young people on something like a dancefloor ?
